PUTNAM CITY HIGH SCHOOL GYM RENOVATION & SAFE ROOM

Oklahoma City, OK
SQUARE FOOTAGE: 23,678

BUDGET: $4M

YEAR COMPLETED: 2019

PROJECT STATEMENT: The
Putnam City HS original gym was built in 1957 with a classic barrel vault roof and bowstring truss system. The renovation turned the old court into a vibrant and classic “Hoosier” styled gym that hosts all varsity games. A safe room was included in the design as a new structure adjacent to the old gym. This reinforced concrete addition incorporates the visitor locker rooms, varsity girls locker, and sports medicine. The use of these spaces that do not require exterior windows and have restrooms that meet the FEMA safe room requirements was another cost-saving design decision. The addition also provided for a two-story lobby serving as the “front door” for the varsity gym and the performing arts auditorium. This project provided new ticketing, spirit store, concessions, varsity locker rooms, visitor locker rooms, coaches offices, sports medicine, and hospitality suite areas along with a new seating bowl.
